2022 recap and 2023 goals

We're here again. Another year down and another 365 days worth of life lived. And what a year it was.

I learnt a lot in 2022 and it ended up being a pretty incredible year for me.

I laughed, I cried, I travelled and I had multiple existential crises but ultimately I ended up coming out the other side a little bit older, a little bit wiser and with another set of goals for the next year.

2022 stats:

  • I went for 74 runs for a total of 489.2km (up from 17 runs last year)

  • Read 17 books

  • I listened to 622.75 hours of music (63.46 from tay tay), from 712 artists across 109 albums

  • I watched 140 movies - not including movies I watched more than once (that's 2.7 a week!)

  • I also watched the entirety of Mad Men, Monster: Jeffrey Dahmer, Pam and Tommy, The girl from Plainville, Afterlife (season 3), The Great, Love life (season 2), and The Crown

  • I travelled 47,800ish km across 9 countries

  • Countless uni assignments

So, it's been a busy year (what's new lol) but I love looking back at those stats and seeing my year laid out . Now, let's recap what my 2022 goals were and whether I was successful or not:

2022

Goal 1: Travel overseas Achieved? Hell to the yeah!

If you read this blog you would already know that this goal was absolutely smashed! 6 entire weeks overseas through multiple countries travelling all on my little lonesome and I had the most wonderful time. I've definitely been bitten by the travel bug and I can't wait for my next adventure.

Goal 2: Finish my first draft

Achieved? Nope...

I have mixed emotions about this one. I set the goal so to not achieve it is a bummer but at the same time I definitely set my sights a little too high this year. I had a lot I wanted to achieve and ultimately not enough hours to achieve it all in. But I made progress. I added another 10,000 words to my story and finished mapping it out. I just need the time to write. But I'll keep chopping away at it.

Goal 3: Continue to lose weight

Achieved? Yes!

I left any numbers off of this goal to make it more of a comfortable progression but I smashed this one out of the park. I'm definitely at my fittest (though not my lightest) and I couldn't be happier with the progress I've made over the last twelve months. Goal 4: Strive to be more confident

Achieved? Yes sir

Confidence is the key to life and I often find myself feeling like I missed that ingredient when I was being mashed into a ball of cells. Throughout 2022 I challenged myself to say yes more, to back myself when I was unsure and to be just that little bit more sure of each of my steps.

I really nailed this. Travelling alone throughout Europe made a massive difference and pushing myself back home helped too. I can't believe how far I've come over the past year and I can't wait to embrace 2023 with the same vigour.

Goal 5: Run 10km

Achieved? OmG hell yeah I did

So this time last year the furthest I'd run was 5km. This was huge for me and I remember feeling nervous but excited to start 2022 and push my running even further. In August I hit 10km and I felt on top of the world. So I pushed harder.

In November I ran my first ever half marathon (21.1km). So, it's pretty safe to say I hit this target and it is probably my proudest accomplishment to date.

Ok so that was my 2022. 2023 I'm ready for you. It's going to be a big year and I'm going to do my best to make it memorable, fun, and eventful. Here are my 2023 goals:

2023

Goal 1: Run a marathon

Lord have mercy on me. With a half marathon under my belt I'm planning on making 2023 my year of running. And that means a lot of running (duh). I've got another half marathon coming up in April followed by a few other runs here and there like the city to surf (hopefully) before the big dance. Kim and I are setting this goal mainly to become part of the 0.01% of the world's population who will run a marathon.

Fingers crossed I kick this one out of the park!

Goal 2: Finish my degree(s)

Oh my lordy lord I am so close to graduating. I can literally see the finish line. I just need to get there. By October I should be a university graduate with two degrees in little pieces of fancy paper to hang on my wall. It's been a long four years and I cannot wait to have that little piece of my time back.

Goal 3: Buy a house

So, this is more a (hopeful) goal depending on a lot of other factors but I've been thinking about it for a while. Up until this point I didn't want to tie myself to Canberra but I've come to the realisation I want to be here, at least for the next little while, so its time I started pushing harder on my savings and then purchase a place. Maybe not a house house… we'll see what I can afford.

Goal 4: Add to my manuscript

I've got a hell of a year ahead of me, there's a lot on and I know for a fact that I'll be really busy. So, instead of trying to set a lofty target that I may not be able to reach I'm setting a target that I know I can find time to achieve. And that feels like a nice sweet spot for me. So, more words for me to write.

Goal 5: Go for more hikes

My last goal for 2023 is pretty basic. I want to spend some more time in nature. Canberra is actually surrounded by some incredible walks and there are even more within a few hours drive. But I've barely scratched the surface of what's available. I want to start getting out there more and checking out the sights.

That's that! My 2022 wrap-up and 2023 goals.

Happy New Year and I hope 2023 is a fantastic year for all of you.

Till next time,

Rhi xx
